A new way to dig

Something is about to change around here. For the past few weeks we've been rebuilding vinyllegend.co.za from the ground up — not a new coat of paint, a new way of digging.

The shop has grown past 1 800 records in stock, and the old site made you work to find anything in it. The new one puts the records first.

A wall of sleeves, not a list of products

The first thing you'll see is the newest arrivals, photographed as they came in, drifting across the top of the page. Vintage on one row, new and sealed on the next. No stock photos, no catalogue renders — the actual copy sitting in the shop, with its own wear and its own story. If you've ever stood at a record fair flipping without a plan, this is meant to feel like that. Hover over the image to get more information like the condition price and more!

Search that shows you the record

Type an artist and you'll see sleeves, not a list of blue links. Each result shows the grades, the year and where it was pressed, and only records that are actually in stock. Click on the arrow in the bottom right of the results to see more search results

Start with the decade you remember

Every second-hand record we list carries the year that copy was pressed. We've now sorted the whole shop by decade — the fifties through to the nineties and later — so you can start where your memory starts and browse from there.

Everything we know about the copy you're buying

Second-hand records are all different, so each listing now spells out what you're getting: the sleeve grade and the vinyl grade in plain English, the year, the country, the catalogue number, and anything else worth knowing — gatefold, limited edition, coloured vinyl. The tracklist is laid out side by side the way it is on the record. And on a phone, the price and Add to cart stay with you while you scroll through the photos.
